Thanks, Brain app icon — a tilted note feeding into a shredder Thanks, Brain

An iOS app for anxious, circling thoughts

Write it down.
Get it out of your head.

Thanks, Brain is one small ritual: write the thought that's circling, then destroy it with your hands — shred it, slice it, burn it, crumple it, dissolve it, or flick it into the night sky.

The Thanks, Brain writing screen: a worry written on a paper card, above a “Shred it” button

The ritual

  1. A paper card asks: “What's circling in your head?”
  2. Write it. Every word stays on that piece of paper, and nowhere else.
  3. Destroy it. The paper takes over the screen, and it's between you and your hands.
  4. “It's gone. One less thing circling.” Write another, or get on with your day.

It started as a real notepad and a real paper shredder. This is that ritual, made portable — and considerably more satisfying. The psychology that inspired it is real (expressive writing, and ACT's habit of thanking your mind for the thought before letting it go — hence the name). The app takes the psychology seriously and itself lightly.

Six ways to see a thought off

All gesture-driven, with real physics, sound, and haptics. Each will politely destroy itself if you'd rather just watch.

Shred

Drag the paper into the shredder. It feeds exactly as fast as you pull, and the strips tumble away.

Slice

Katana swipes genuinely cut along your swipe line. The pieces hang in the air — dice them as fine as your patience allows.

Burn

Hold a finger to the paper and fire catches there, eating outward. Touch somewhere else and a second fire starts, and they merge.

Crumple

Scrub it into a creased paper ball, then flick it wherever you're aiming.

Dissolve

Brush across the page and it turns to dust under your finger.

Release

Night falls. Flick the thought into the sky and it becomes a star among the others. The calm one, for thoughts you'd rather set down gently.

A look inside

For the thoughts that come back

The real trouble with a worry is that it returns. In Thanks, Brain you can give a recurring worry a nickname — The Replayer, The 3am Accountant — and next time it shows up, one tap sees it off. The app keeps gentle score:

“That's the 6th time you've seen off The Replayer. It keeps coming back — and you keep being fine.”

Only the nickname is stored. Never a word of what you wrote.

Nothing you write is ever saved

No account, no sync, no server, no content analytics. The app stores exactly two things on your device: your settings, and your Regulars' nicknames and counts. Its App Store privacy label reads “Data Not Collected.” The full privacy policy is short, because there's not much to say.

Free. Actually free.

Everything included — no unlocks, no subscription. There is a tip jar. Tips unlock nothing; they're just kind. The options are best discovered in person.

Thanks, brain. Anyway…
